Shaving in the middle of a game is something that appears to have become popular among MLB players this season, and Houston Astros outfielder Josh Reddick was the latest to give it a try.
When the first pitch was thrown in Houston’s game against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night, Reddick was rocking a mustache. It wasn’t a very thick one, but it was noticeable. By the sixth inning, it was gone.

Reddick went 0-for-2 in the game and grounded into a double-play prior to shaving between innings, and he said superstition was the motivation behind the decision.
Reddick also shaved his mustache during the game: "I had two at-bats with the mustache. You don't get a hit and shave it off. Not my best look the way I look now. My facial grows back very fast."

Unfortunately, the plan didn’t work. Reddick finished the game 0-for-3.
Reddick joins Cleveland Indians outfielder Yasiel Puig, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen and New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres as players who have shaved in the middle of games this season. Jansen’s rationale was the same as Reddick’s, so this is becoming a trend. As Baker Mayfield reminded us this week, you really just never know what’s going to happen with a mustache.
