Mariners reportedly trying to trade Carlos Santana
Carlos Santana may be the next trade candidate up for Seattle Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto.
The Mariners acquired Santana in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies that also involved Jean Segura, JP Crawford, Juan Nicasio and James Pazos. Santana was signed to a 3-year, $60 million contract by Philly last offseason and disappointed with just a .229 batting average. Seattle seems to be in rebuilding mode and Santana does not figure into their plans.
The Athletic’s Corey Brock says Santana is unlikely to play any games for the Mariners. So far the team has talked with the Rays, Indians and Rockies about a potential trade.
Seattle would likely have to kick in big bucks in order to find a taker for Santana, who is still owed over $40 million the next two years. A return to Cleveland would make sense in the case the Indians trade Edwin Encarnacion or upgrade from Yonder Alonso.
