Marlins have reportedly made ‘monster offer’ to Kenley Jansen
The Miami Marlins are desperate to sign a top-of-the-line closer, and that could wind up making Kenley Jansen a very rich man.
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Marlins have made Jansen a “monster offer” that could rival the five-year, $86 million deal Aroldis Chapman got from the New York Yankees.
Sources: The Marlins have made a monster offer for Kenley Jansen — almost at the level of Aroldis Chapman. Five years, more than $80M.

Jansen is said to be choosing between the Marlins and remaining with the Los Angeles Dodgers, though Passan speculates that an $80 million price tag could leave Miami as the only suitor.
The Marlins’ urgency in wanting to sign Jansen makes sense, as they were said to be determined to sign a big-name closer this offseason. With Mark Melancon already signing with the San Francisco Giants and Chapman going back to New York, Jansen is the best reliever left on the market.
A previous report claimed the Marlins want to put together a great bullpen to compensate for a lack of starting rotation depth. If Jansen re-signs with the Dodgers, Miami may have to make that happen via trade.
