Max Scherzer is known as an emotional player, and he got so fired up Sunday that he lost sight of what inning it was.
Washington’s Anthony Rendon doubled home Adam Eaton in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-2 tie with the Kansas City Royals, but the Nationals ace clearly thought it was the ninth as he ran out onto the field to celebrate with Eaton. He tried to play it off when he realized he was the only one out there in hilarious fashion.
Max Scherzer is locked into every single pitch 99.99% of the time.
But today, he thought the game was over in the eighth inning. pic.twitter.com/MVuaV85Y50

Max Scherzer thinking it was a walkoff when Eaton scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th is one of my favorite things so far this year. He ran out, was so fired up and ready to celebrate…….and then realized he was the only guy out there other than Eaton.

The Nationals’ dugout naturally had a blast with this. When Howie Kendrick doubled home two more insurance runs in the eighth, Stephen Strasburg jokingly blocked Scherzer from heading out onto the field.
This moment when Stras holds him back for the next 2 runs was funny as well! pic.twitter.com/u2uJZXpDWq

Scherzer has always worn his emotions on his sleeve. You love to see him get excited, even if it’s in the wrong inning.
