The New York Mets are moving closer to hiring a new general manager.
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Rays vice president Chaim Bloom, former Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin, and agent Brodie Van Wagenen are the three finalists, though SNY’s Andy Martino adds that another candidate could yet emerge.

Source: There could still be an additional candidate we haven't heard of in Mets search. Not necessarily done. But Bloom, Melvin and BVW are in second round. After a ton of diligence on Ng in particular, she and Close are no longer candidates.

The choices come after the Mets were reportedly turned down by at least one current MLB general manager.
Of the three, Melvin has the most experience, while Bloom and Van Wagenen would be first-time GMs. Van Wagenen is a particularly interesting name, as he has no executive experience, having served as the co-head of CAA’s baseball division. He and the Mets have worked together, as he negotiated Yoenis Cespedes’s deal and, perhaps more notably, serves as Tim Tebow’s agent.
