MLB posted incredible merchandise sales during London Series
Financially, Major League Baseball’s London Series was a rousing success, at least in terms of merchandise sales.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees recorded the highest merchandise sales of any overseas MLB event, and even outpaced every All-Star game since 2008. Demand was so great that when the league returns next year, they are planning to open more merchandise shops.
MLB plans to add more retail shops for next year’s London Series with #Cubs and #Stlcards after they recorded the highest merchandise sales for #Yankees–#Redsox than any international baseball event at single venue in history, even eclipsing every All Star Game since 2008.

It helps that MLB brought arguably its two highest-profile teams overseas instead of giving London a lesser matchup, and the fans were very into it. The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, another prominent rivalry, will travel to London next year. It’s not quite Yankees and Red Sox, but it should draw wide interest.
