Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story hit a home run during Monday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians that is probably unlike any other you have ever seen before.
The Red Sox were leading the Guardians 5-3 at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass., when Trevor Story led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a fly ball down the right field line. Cleveland right fielder Jhonkensy Noel nearly made a great catch, but the ball bounced out of his glove and ended up in the stands.
The call on the field was a foul ball, which initially looked correct. The Red Sox challenged, however, and replays showed that the ball actually hit off of the foul pole at one point either before or after it hit Jhonkensy’s glove.
Since the ball hit the foul pole, the ruling was the same as it would be if it hit off of a fielder’s glove and went over the wall.

The home run, which was the 23rd of the year for Story, gave the Red Sox a 6-3 lead. They went on to win 6-4.
Story is finally healthy and having a solid year at the plate. He has played in 134 games this season after playing in just 69 combined over the past two years. The Red Sox are just 2.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East and tied with the New York Yankees for the lead in the AL Wild Card race. Story’s production is a big reason for that.
