Robin Ventura reportedly expected to be out as White Sox manager
Robin Ventura’s five-year stint as Chicago White Sox manager appears to be drawing to a close.
According to a report by Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday, the White Sox are not expected to retain Ventura and instead are preparing to replace him with bench coach Rick Renteria.
Ventura, a former member of the White Sox during his playing career, ascended to the position in October 2011. But the team has gone an unsatisfactory 375-433 (.464) under his leadership and just clinched their fourth straight losing season.
Meanwhile, Renteria was hired to the White Sox coaching staff just this year but previously served as the manager of the crosstown rival Chicago Cubs, going 73-89 in his one season with the team in 2014.
After several consecutive years where the White Sox have failed to live up to expectations and a number of very public spats between players and management, perhaps a change in leadership is exactly what this team needs.
