Shohei Ohtani reacts to being booed by Mariners fans
Shohei Ohtani played his first career game in Seattle on Friday night when the Los Angeles Angels visited the Mariners, and the fans in attendance did not exactly give him a warm reception. That isn’t something Ohtani is accustomed to.
Following the game, which the Angels won 5-0, Ohtani was asked for his thoughts on being booed by Mariners fans. He admitted he felt uncomfortable.
Shohei Ohtani on getting booed in Seattle: “I’m not really used to being booed … It felt awkward.”

The negative reception didn’t seem to affect Ohtani, as the Japanese superstar went 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored another. He did strike out in his first at-bat, however.
If you’re wondering why fans in Seattle are upset with Ohtani, it’s because the Mariners were among the finalists to sign the 23-year-old and even worked to clear more money so they could add him. Eventually, M’s fans will get over it and not take Ohtani signing with their rival personally. Judging by the way he reacted, Ohtani is looking forward to that day.
