Yankees unlikely to have key player ready for ALDS
The New York Yankees are likely to be down at least one key player for the American League Division Series against Kansas City.
Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is highly unlikely to play in the ALDS, general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Thursday. Rizzo fractured two fingers on his right hand when he was hit by a pitch on Sept. 28, and has not even started on baseball activities yet.
Anthony Rizzo hasn't attempted baseball activities yet, Brian Cashman said. The Yankees consider him a long shot to be ready for the ALDS.

Rizzo has had injury issues all season, first with his arm and now with his hand. He had only returned from the arm injury in September and did not make much of an impact at the plate, hitting .247 without much extra base power in the month of September.
The Yankees will be seen as favorites in the American League playoffs, especially after the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros were both eliminated in the Wild Card round. They have been plagued with some noteworthy injuries down the stretch that could help level the playing field, though.
