Yankees in contact with Mets about starting pitching?
The New York Yankees have only made a trade with their crosstown rivals two times in the last decade, but Brian Cashman seems to have no qualms about potentially making it a third at this year’s deadline.
Addressing reporters Friday, the Yankees general manager said he had been in touch with his “good friend” Omar Minaya, the longtime Mets executive and current special assistant to the GM. Cashman also added that the Yankees are actively trying to improve their rotation, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Beyond ace Luis Severino, the Yankees are currently relying on the aging CC Sabathia, the inconsistent Sonny Gray, and the rookies Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisiga to fill out the rotation. While ex-All-Star Masahiro Tanaka is expected back soon from injury, the team could still stand to add another proven starter for what looks like a realistic possible World Series run.
As for the Mets, Minaya figures to be a key voice for them ahead of the Jul. 31 trade deadline with GM Sandy Alderson taking a health-related leave of absence. Another Mets front office member also made some comments recently hinting that they may be open to dealing away their best pitchers.
