Anthony Edwards didn’t even wait for the opening tip to begin chirping at Luka Doncic.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star Edwards drew attention for an interesting moment before Tuesday’s Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers. During pregame warmups, Edwards walked over to where the Lakers were shooting and began talking trash to Doncic.
The animosity was ultimately minimal though as Edwards and Doncic both walked away from the interaction with smiles on their faces. Here is the video.
It was Edwards who got the better of Doncic in Game 1 of the series on Saturday. Minnesota defeated the Lakers 117-95, and Edwards, who finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists, notably taunted Doncic during the closing stages of the contest.
But it was Doncic who won the battle against Edwards last postseason. While still a member of the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic led his team to a five-game victory in the Western Conference Finals over Edwards’ Timberwolves, even hitting one of the most memorable shots in recent playoff history along the way.
In truth, Edwards and Doncic are probably the two best trash talkers in the NBA right now. The former will chirp at just about anyone (including his childhood idols), and the latter spares no one either (including fans who are sitting courtside). The war of words between the two 20-something superstars, who are clearly happy to match each other’s energy, adds another compelling storyline to this year’s first-round playoff battle between the young Timberwolves and the veteran Lakers.
