Bill Russell arrested at airport for having loaded gun in his carry-on
NBA legend Bill Russell was arrested on Wednesday at Seattle-Tacoma International airport for having a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage, according to reports.
King 5 TV reporter Chris Daniels tweeted the news Friday night and noted that Russell had a loaded .38 caliber gun in his carry-on bag. KIRO-TV adds that the gun was found at a routine security checkpoint inside the airport.
KIRO says Russell had a permit for the gun and was released.
Firearms can be transported if the traveler declares them to the airline ahead of time. Russell failed to do so.
Russell won a record 11 NBA championships with the Boston Celtics. The NBA Finals MVP award is named after him. He lives in Mercer Island, which is east of Seattle.
