Chelsea Gray is speaking out after Sunday’s game against the Indiana Fever.
The Las Vegas aces star point guard Gray took to her Instagram Story on Monday to condemn the racial abuse that she says she received after an incident during the game with Fever superstar Caitlin Clark. Gray said that she got a DM from a user who used a racial slur against her.
“You suck a– ugly a– n—-r,” the DM read (profanity edited by LBS).
“This was a message I received after our game vs Indy yesterday,” said Gray in her caption. “People act like we just make this s–t up. And the audacity to tell us as athletes to ‘shut up and dribble'” (profanity also edited by LBS).

Gray, a six-time WNBA All-Star and four-time WNBA champion, got physical in the post with Clark during one particular sequence in the first half of Sunday’s game. While Gray successfully drew a foul on Clark on the play, she gave Clark an elbow to the midsection in the process, resulting in Clark falling to the ground in pain (see the video here). The Fever would go on to defeat the Aces by a blowout final score of 109-75 at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
Another opponent, Alyssa Thomas of the Phoenix Mercury, also recently revealed that she received both racial slurs and death threats after a physical incident with Clark of her own. While Thomas’ incident with Clark resulted in a retroactive Flagrant 2 and a one-game suspension, Gray was not given any sort of foul for her own incident with Clark as it appeared to fall in the category of entirely normal basketball contact.
