It didn’t take long for DeMarcus Cousins to pick up his first technical foul of the season, and he wasn’t particularly thrilled about it.
After the Pelicans fell to Memphis in Wednesday’s season-opener, Cousins sounded off on the technical foul that he received in the final minute of the fourth quarter after responding to a fan yelling obscenities at him.
“She dropped a couple “F” bombs and flipped me off and I don’t think that was right,” said the All-Star big man, per Rod Walker of the Advocate. “That’s pretty bogus. [The ref] sat there and heard her speaking to me in a nasty way. I shouldn’t have responded to it, but I’m a human being and I’m also a grown man and I’m not going to let another person just disrespect me. I feel like [the ref] should’ve handled it, but he decided not to but he handled my end of it.”
Cousins, who racked up 28 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocks in the loss, is well-aware of his reputation when it comes to picking up Ts. It’s definitely not the first such incident he’s had with a fan either, but there comes a point where both players and fans should be held equally accountable.
