Draymond Green really does not care for the 901.
The Golden State Warriors star Green made more inflammatory comments this week about Memphis during the latest episode of his self-titled podcast. Green was discussing the recent buzz over NBA expansion and gave his opinion that the Grizzlies should be relocated from Memphis to Nashville, Tenn. instead.
“Just do everybody a favor and move that team to Nashville,” Green said. “There’s no great hotels in Memphis … Shoutout to the people in Memphis, I love them. But from a NBA standpoint, there’s not a sauna or a hot tub in sight. Nowhere. Not at the gym, not at the spa, not at a hotel, nothing.
“So the NBA either needs to send them to Nashville so they can have proper facilities, or even better, it should be mandatory that teams have at least a hot or cold tub or probably a sauna in their visiting locker rooms,” Green continued. “Get Memphis the hell out of Memphis and send them to Nashville … Do us all a favor, [NBA commissioner] Adam [Silver]. Nobody will be upset. Not one person will be upset.”
The Grizzlies have played in Memphis ever since 2001 after relocating from Vancouver, Canada (where their team was originally founded back in 1995). Meanwhile, Nashville sits just 212 miles northeast of Memphis and is also already the home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, a fact that Green mentioned during his segment.
Last month, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards got the conversation started about Memphis by calling out the city for being “dirty” and for supposedly having unclean hotel rooms. Green then chimed in by also ripping Memphis’ hotel situation, and now he apparently even has a problem with the overall amenities in the city as well.
