Family of minor at center of Josh Giddey investigation hires well-known attorney
The family of the minor who was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey has officially lawyered up.
Cliff Brunt of the Washington Post reported Monday that famous attorney Gloria Allred is now representing the family of the female minor at the heart of the Giddey investigation. Allred confirmed her hiring in an e-mail to the Washington Post but declined to elaborate, saying, “We have no comment.”
Allred, 82, is a well-known celebrity attorney who has taken on numerous prominent cases over the decades, usually involving female victims and women’s rights. She has also had many cases in the sports world before.
The 21-year-old Giddey is being investigated by both the NBA and local police in Newport Beach, Calif. after allegations surfaced online accusing him of having an improper relationship with a minor. You can read more about those online allegations here.
No charges have been filed against Giddey however, and he has continued to play for the Thunder (appearing in four games and counting ever since the scandal broke). Over the weekend, a new report shed light on the nature of Giddey’s alleged encounter with the minor.
At one point, we heard that the family of the minor was supposedly refusing to cooperate with the criminal investigation. That might change now that Allred is involved though, and there also appears to be the possibility that the family could file a civil suit against Giddey.
