The Chicago Bulls officially announced on Monday that they have hired a new vice president of basketball operations, and with that Gar Forman’s lengthy tenure with the team has come to an end.

Forman has been fired by the Bulls, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

We knew major changes were coming for Chicago’s front office when they began searching for a new head of basketball operations, but this gives us a better idea of the extent of the shakeup.

Forman was named the GM of the Bulls in 2009, replacing John Paxson. Paxson had been the vice president of basketball operations for Chicago before Arturas Karnisovas was hired, and it remains to be seen if Paxson will remain with the team in another role. Paxson is reportedly willing to step down if the franchise would prefer that.

Forman and Paxson have been lumped together in recent years, with Bulls fans using the nickname “Gar-Pax” for them. The term has generally been used when discussing the duo’s inability to bring the team back to championship contention, so it’s no surprise the Bulls have decided to make significant changes.
