Jayson Tatum says he has not picked up a basketball since Celtics’ last game
If Jayson Tatum is any indication, NBA players may need a significant amount of time to get back into playing shape if and when the season can resume.
The Boston Celtics forward said Monday on ESPN’s “The Jump” that he has not been able to pick up a basketball since the team’s last game. Tatum also added that he thought about getting a hoop but decided that Boston weather was not conducive to outdoor workouts, per Jay King of The Athletic.
The Celtics last played over a month ago, defeating the Pacers in Indiana on March 10. Tatum, who was averaging 23.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game when the season was suspended, scored a team-high 30 in the contest.
The NBA is reportedly trying to assemble a 25-day “back to basketball” plan, but Tatum’s case illustrates one of the concerns with a quick return to play.
