Suns coach Jeff Hornacek’s job is under immediate threat, according to a report.
ESPN’s Marc Stein reported Sunday that there are fears within the organization that the team is no longer responding to the coach, with the Suns 5-15 in their last 20 games, including a home loss to the lowly 76ers, who hadn’t won a road game since March.
Hornacek is in the final guaranteed season of a four year deal, and the Suns had already elected not to pick up his 2016-17 team option prior to the season.
Phoenix had what they believed was a playoff-caliber team coming into the year, but a 12-20 start has put that into question. With guard Eric Bledsoe expected to miss time with a knee sprain, things could get worse before they get better, and it could cost Hornacek his position.
There is some evidence that Hornacek is losing his team. Forward Markieff Morris was recently suspended for flinging a towel at the coach.
