Texas Tech guard Keenan Evans had been dealing with a toe injury for the latter part of the season, but only after the Red Raiders were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament did the guard divulge how serious the issue was.
Evans said after Texas Tech’s Elite Eight loss to Villanova that he has been playing since late February with a broken big toe which will require surgery.

In context, this makes Evans’s NCAA Tournament performances more impressive. Though he struggled in the season-ending loss to Villanova, his 22 points against Florida and 16 points against Purdue were vital in getting the Red Raiders to that game in the first place.
