As if Year 23 of LeBron James’s NBA career doesn’t already sound absurd, Kevin Durant thinks Year 28 is a possibility for the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player.
Following the Houston Rockets’ 124-116 loss to James and the Los Angeles Lakers at t Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, Durant said that he sees The King extending his NBA reign for up to five years.
“I think he [LeBron James] could play for another 4-5 years, to be honest,” Durant shared during the postgame press conference, via ESPN.
Durant made that statement after his Rockets got lit up by James for 30 points on 13/14 shooting. The Rockets star, on the other hand, made 18 points on 7/11 shooting.
Even at age 41, James remains a key cog for a playoff contender. Many superstars before him who played into their late 30s or early 40s faded into bench-ornament roles, providing veteran presence and little else.
James, meanwhile, is still playing at a higher level and producing better numbers than the majority of the league.
If James plays at least four more years, it will be interesting to see which team gives him the opportunity to continue his exploits in the league. He does not have a contract beyond this season, and it’s unclear what his future plans are.
Through 48 games played, the 22-time NBA All-Star is recording 21.4 points, 6.8 assists and 5.6 rebounds, while posting a 55.8 eFG%.
