Knicks reportedly trying to trade for D’Angelo Russell
The Minnesota Timberwolves were unable to pry D’Angelo Russell away from the Golden State Warriors, but the New York Knicks are still in pursuit of the star point guard.
The Knicks have been in talks with the Warriors about a potential Russell trade, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. However, it does not sound like New York has come close to meeting Golden State’s asking price — at least not yet.

All indications are that the Warriors are not going to trade Russell unless they are blown away by an offer, and that offer would likely have to include a high draft pick. That’s the reason the T-Wolves moved on from the talks.
The Knicks are looking to hire a new president of basketball operations and start rebuilding their roster, so they will probably be hesitant to give up significant draft capital as well. There’s always the possibility of getting a third or fourth team involved, but that did not work out for Minnesota.
