Kristaps Porzingis sent a message on his Instagram story Thursday night that hinted at some drama surrounding his situation with the New York Knicks.
Porzingis was abruptly traded to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday as part of a major six-player deal that also involved two draft picks going to New York. The trade seemingly came out of nowhere, with the only hint coming after reports said Porzingis had met with the Knicks and said he wanted a trade. Then within the hour, he had been dealt.
In a post on Instagram, Porzingis bid farewell to the Knicks, saying “New York will always have a special place in my heart.” Then in his Instagram story, he wrote “the truth will come out :)”

We’ve only heard the Knicks’ side of the story so far, which is that Porzingis did not want to be a part of their future. We have yet to hear Porzingis’ side, though we know he’s excited about teaming with Luka Doncic.
Porzingis is recovering from a torn ACL and still has not played this season. It’s entirely possible that he misses the whole season.
Porzingis has long had issues with the Knicks, with trade rumors following him for a year and a half. He seemed to take Carmelo Anthony’s side in the former All-Star’s drama with Phil Jackson and may have lost trust in the front office long ago.
