If the Boston Celtics are going to make a deep run in the playoffs this season, they will have to do it without Kyrie Irving.
Irving recently underwent a knee procedure that was expected to keep him out for 3-6 weeks, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that Irving will miss the remainder of the regular season and entire postseason.
In the aftermath of left knee surgery, Boston Celtics All-Star guard Kyrie Irving will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs, league sources told ESPN.

Irving’s surgery was designed to alleviate the irritation he has been dealing with in his left knee, and the Celtics referred to it as “minimally invasive.” The hope initially was that he would either be ready for the start of the playoffs or possibly just miss the first round.
Celtics GM Danny Ainge has said that the left knee issue is just something Irving will have to manage the rest of his career. While an MRI he underwent came back clean last month, it seems like the injury is more serious than the Celtics have indicated.
