Los Angeles Lakers put up billboards asking Dwight Howard to stay

The Los Angeles Lakers need Dwight Howard to stay with the team so they can be competitive next year, and they have decided to pull out all the stops to get their message across. On Wednesday, the Lakers’ official Twitter account introduced their newest campaign to beg Howard to stay, which includes billboards around the LA area.

The massive billboard you see above is currently displayed on the side of the Staples Center, but the team didn’t stop there. There is also a sign that folks driving down Hollywood Blvd. may have noticed:

“If you’re walking Hollywood Blvd. looking down at the stars, don’t miss the one above you,” the Lakers’ Twitter account wrote along with the photo above.

Talk about corny. We all know the Lakers will be giving Howard a max contract extension if he stays, so it’s not like they’re giving up any leverage by begging the big man. The only thing taking a hit here is their pride.

Maybe the Lakers feel that a team like this does indeed have a legitimate chance at landing Howard. Perhaps this was Kobe Bryant’s idea, as he seems to think LA needs to keep Howard in order to sustain success. Whatever the case, Dwight must be eating it up. We all know how much he loves the spotlight.
