Report: NBA has optimism about resuming season

Just two weeks ago, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst made headlines for saying his sense was there was pessimism about the NBA season resuming. Windhorst says he was scolded over his reporting, and now some are reporting the opposite.

The Athletic’s Sam Amick published a story on Thursday saying there is optimism that the 2019-2020 season will be resumed. He based his story on conversations he had with people in the business.

Here is what Amick said led him to his conclusion:

“In the interest of full transparency, I didn’t poll every owner, player or agent out there. Not even close. But in making the rounds with some of the more prominent people in those communities, I quickly found it apparent that there’s a shared goal of finding a way of finishing this campaign and a widespread sense that it’s still feasible. Somehow. Some way.”

There has been talk about the NBA possibly playing the rest of its games in a quarantine situation in Las Vegas, utilizing a similar setup to what they do for the Summer League. A recent report said they had plans for 25 days of training to get players ready before possibly resuming games.

Would they shorten the regular and/or postseason in a resumed season? That’s a possibility. But the good overall news for sports fans is that the league may resume playing, without fans though.
