The Philadelphia 76ers won the LeBron James sweepstakes, and now head coach Nick Nurse is figuring out how to use the future Hall of Fame superstar.
It was reported previously that the 76ers plan to use James as the primary ball-handler and as the point guard, which would force Tyrese Maxey into an off-ball role.
Now, Nurse said the same thing, saying James will “bring the ball up the floor” for the 76ers.
“He is an offense creator. He is certainly a guy that will bring the ball up the floor and try to create for himself and others. He is really good for others,” Nurse said during an episode of the “Takeoff with John Clark” podcast.
James chose the 76ers over the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, and the starting five includes superstars such as Maxey and Joel Embiid.
The 76ers also acquired Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics, so there are a lot of mouths to feed in the Philadelphia offense, although James has shown he is capable of being a distributor.
LeBron James is currently fourth all-time in the NBA assists list, with John Stockton, Chris Paul and Jason Kidd at the top of the list. James only trails Kidd by 75 assists, although he is more than 500 away from Paul.
In James’ final season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he averaged 7.2 assists, and his career-high came in 2019-2020 when he averaged 10.2 assists en route to an NBA Finals victory.
