The Boston Celtics organization was grateful for Nikola Vucevic’s brief stint with the team. The fan base apparently was not.
After playing just 22 games for the Celtics last season, Vucevic signed a 1-year deal to return to the Orlando Magic last week. The Celtics’ social media team tried to give Vucevic a classy sendoff with a thank-you post on X.
The post ended up backfiring, as fans just used the thread to flame Vooch for failing to make the impact on the team Brad Stevens had intended. Vucevic himself couldn’t help but laugh at the entire ordeal.
“Thank you for posting this but all it did is set me up for the lovely replies,” Vucevic wrote in response, along with some laughing emojis.

You can check out some of those comments from dissatisfied fans below.
You’d ask vooch to catch a wide open pass under the basket and he’d just look at you like this pic.twitter.com/djkzhO75w7

The Celtics acquired Vucevic in a trade deadline deal for Anfernee Simons. While the move looked like a roster rebalancing decision with Jayson Tatum’s return looming at the time, the move was widely understood as a cost-cutting measure.
Simons’ $27 million expiring deal was only $6 million more than Vucevic’s contract. But the swap saved the Celtics about $20 million in luxury tax payments.
Simons was an impactful spark plug off the bench for Boston, averaging 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 49 games for Beantown.
Vucevic was not as effective, as his numbers dropped to 9.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in a Celtics uniform. He also shot just 43.9 percent from the field, which would have been the worst mark of his career had it been extrapolated to a full season.
There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Nikola Vucevic not getting a statue outside TD Garden.
