Noah Syndergaard rips Mets for planning workout in Syracuse

Noah Syndergaard is preparing to take the mound for the New York Mets in their first series of the year next weekend, and the right-hander believes the team is making it more difficult than it has to be to prepare for that start.

Before they return to New York City from their spring training home in Port St. Lucie, the Mets are stopping off in Syracuse to do a bit of promoting. The organization is debuting its new Triple-A team this season in Syracuse, and they’re holding a workout there this week in an attempt to stir up interest in the new club.

Syndergaard told reporters on Sunday that he thinks the trip is a horrible idea.

“I don’t know whose idea that was, but it’s not a smart one,” Syndergaard said. “I don’t think that’s conducive for winning ballgames, really — that much travel. I mean, I’m sure the amenities in Syracuse aren’t the best for a major league baseball team to go up there and have one last workout before the regular season starts, but those kinds of decisions are above my pay grade.

Syndergaard probably isn’t the only Mets player who is irritated about the trip, but we know he’s arguably the most outspoken player on the team. It’s no surprise he isn’t hiding how he feels.
