Pistons fans break out 3-word chant after team enters NBA infamy

Detroit Pistons fans chanted three words in unison after their team’s fate was sealed Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich.

The Pistons lost their 27th game in a row in a 118-112 affair against the Brooklyn Nets. The result broke a tie with the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers for the worst losing streak in a single season.

Once the result was all but final, the fans in attendance let their feelings toward the organization be heard loud and clear.

“Sell the team! Sell the team!” the fans chanted as their team trailed by 5 with 13.4 seconds remaining.

It’s not the first time the fans have chanted for Pistons ownership to change hands. Team owner Tom Gores even responded to the negative attention last week.

The volume of those chants will only get louder as the team continues to spiral downward during what’s already been a lost season.

The Pistons put up a valiant effort to try to avoid ending up on the wrong end of NBA history. Detroit led by as much as 14 points early in the contest.

Despite falling behind by double figures in the second half, the Pistons battled back to take a 5-point advantage in the fourth quarter after a Cade Cunningham three.

Cunningham did all he could to try to get the victory for his squad. The Pistons point guard led all scorers with 41 points on a superb 15/21 shooting clip. He also had 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 triples.

Cunningham’s effort just wasn’t enough to prevent his team from falling to 2-28.

The Pistons will look to end their streak before surpassing the overall record set by Philadelphia. The Sixers lost 28 in a row combined between the end of the 2014-15 season through the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

Detroit have the Boston Celtics on the road and the Toronto Raptors at home next on their schedule.
