Rob Hennigan downplays Magic’s leaked whiteboard photo: ‘Not indicative of plans’
Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan is doing his best to douse the flames of Whiteboardgate.
Hennigan was asked for comment on Monday night about the photo tweeted by new signee Patricio Garino’s agent that appeared to leak the team’s offseason player targets listed on a whiteboard. The 35-year-old executive downplayed the image, saying it was “not indicative of plans” and was just a case of “simply listing options, including some of which other teams have inquired about,” per Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.
The photo (which you can see here) seemed to drop some bombshells about Orlando’s plans for the summer, including interest in pursuing Paul Millsap and Andre Iguodala in free agency and even the possibility of trading franchise player Aaron Gordon to the Philadelphia 76ers for Dario Saric.
Hennigan’s response isn’t surprising, as damage control had to be done after such an embarassing incident. But given that he’s already apparently on the hot seat, the blunder will certainly do no favors for Hennigan’s job security.
