Rockets’ Gerald Green hopeful to return in time for postseason

Gerald Green

The Houston Rockets have some big hopes for the playoffs, and Gerald Green is somewhat optimistic that he will be able to contribute to them.

The injured Rockets swingman said this weekend that he is hopeful he will be able to return in time for the postseason.

“I’m not trying to speed myself up, but hoping I’ll be ready to go by the end of this year, maybe towards playoffs,” said Green, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. “Don’t want to put myself ahead of schedule. Don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up or anything like that. It’s something I have [as] a personal goal. If I reach it, great. If I don’t, it’s not the end of the world. Just keep getting healthy.”

The 33-year-old Green, who has been out since fracturing his left foot during a preseason game in October, added that he has not yet been cleared to run but has been getting therapy regularly and walking on an underwater treadmill.

Houston has missed the second-unit scoring punch of Green, who posted 10.2 points per game on 36.0 percent from deep the last two years for them. While guards Ben McLemore and Danuel House have stepped up in Green’s absence, his original timetable would support the idea of a potential playoff return.
