Stephen Curry hoping to prove Steve Kerr wrong, return in first round
Stephen Curry is far from content with his head coach’s diagnosis.
Just hours after Steve Kerr told the media that there was “no way” he would play in the first round of the playoffs in mid-April, the Golden State Warriors star expressed a very different sentiment.
“Hopefully I prove what Coach said wrong and put myself in a position to get back as soon as possible,” said Curry before the Warriors played the Utah Jazz on Sunday, per the Mercury News’ Mark Medina. “Right now, who knows? I’ll just try to do my job in the rehab process, get back as soon as I can and control my presence with the team and help anyway I can when I’m out on the floor.”
The two-time MVP is nursing a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee that he suffered on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks and is due to be re-evaluated in three weeks. The postseason begins on Apr. 14 (in a little less than three weeks time), and even if Curry is ready by then, the Dubs may still choose to play it safe with their superstar against a (presumably) inferior opponent in Round 1.
Nonetheless, Curry is said to be in good spirits despite the injury, which is an encouraging sign regardless of when exactly he ultimately returns to the court.
