Report: Tayshaun Prince may be leading candidate for Pistons GM

The Detroit Pistons’ next general manager could just be a very familiar face.

Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times reported over the weekend that some NBA officials speculate that former Piston Tayshaun Prince may be the leader for the team’s GM job. Woelfel also adds that Detroit would like to fill the position with an ex-NBA player.

Prince, 38, was a beloved Piston during his playing career, suiting up for the team from 2002 to 2013 (including an NBA title in 2004) before returning to Detroit for a brief stint in 2015. These days, he is working in the Memphis Grizzlies’ front office as a special assistant to the general manager, a position that he has held since last August.

The Pistons just parted ways last month with Stan Van Gundy, who had been their head coach and president of basketball operations since 2014. The big names being linked to their coaching search have gotten most of the headlines lately, but hiring Prince as their GM would likely be a huge hit with the fans on top of his basketball savvy.
