With Magic Johnson having stepped down as president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Lakers, there has been some talk about longtime Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers potentially heading south to help LeBron James and company rebuild. It doesn’t sound like that is going to happen, however.
Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area joked with Myers over the weekend by asking him if he’s set up a meeting yet with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and the Warriors GM played along with a sarcastic response.
“Oh, right. Almost forgot. I’m supposed to meet her at 2,” Myers joked while looking at his watch.

Myers then quipped that he is not eager to go anywhere just yet, even if there are some days that are more difficult than others. It seemed obvious from the exchange that Myers has no intention of leaving Golden State.
Part of the reason Myers has been linked to the Lakers is that he went to UCLA and worked in Los Angeles for several years as an agent. With the Warriors looking to win their third consecutive championship and fourth in the past fifth year, there’s a line of thinking that Myers might be tempted to try to play hero and rescue the Lakers. However, it goes without saying that he has a great thing going in his current job.
We can think of several top executives the Lakers might want to hire to replace Johnson, but the Myers idea seems unrealistic at this point.
