Eligibility case for LSU’s RJ Luis takes another major turn
Believe it or not, RJ Luis might be able to play for the LSU Tigers men’s basketball team this season.
In a big twist, a judge in Baton Rouge granted an injunction on Wednesday “enjoining” LSU and the SEC to stop the conference from imposing penalties on the program for having him on the roster, according to Toyloy Brown III of Nola.com.
Luis starred for the St. John’s Red Storm and was named the 2025 Big East Player of the Year. He then went to the NBA, and he spent time with the Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz in the NBA, but did not appear in any game.
The case for Luis has been back and forth, and it comes after LSU football coach Lane Kiffin attempted to bring former NFL players to his team in another odd twist.
Luis committed to LSU in May, and new head coach Will Wade also added Yam Madar, the 47th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Madar never signed an NBA deal, but Luis did have a two-way contract with the Celtics before being released.
Alabama also faced issues with an injunction last season regarding center Charles Bediako, and he was eventually not allowed to play the rest of the season.
The case with RJ Luis is far from over, and representatives for LSU and the SEC have a preliminary injunction hearing Nov. 13.
LSU faces LSU New Orleans on Tuesday in the season opener, so Luis will be able to play.
Lakers agree to deal with former Grizzlies center
The Los Angeles Lakers are making a roster move after just four games.
On Wednesday, the Lakers waived two-way player AK Okereke. In turn, LA signed 7-foot center Lawson Lovering to a two-way contract, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. Okereke didn’t play in a game this season, and he went undrafted after playing his final college season at Vanderbilt.
Lovering is just 23 years old, and he played college basketball for the Colorado Buffaloes and Utah Utes before going undrafted in 2025. He began his career at Colorado before transferring to Utah.
Lovering played two games for the Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie, and he had an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double in the Feb. 20 game against the Utah Jazz.
The Lakers acquired star center Walker Kessler in a trade with the Utah Jazz this summer, but the backup center position has been a huge issue in four games for LA this season.
Former Golden State Warriors star Kevon Looney has been seeing minutes, but he has made a minimal impact so far.
Lovering will be back and forth between the G League team, the Coachella Valley Lakers, and the NBA team. He played in 11 games last season for the Memphis Hustle in the G League, averaging 5.7 points with 5.9 rebounds in just under 27 minutes per game.
LA has gotten off to a 3-1 start this season.
Garrett Wilson addresses trade rumors after sideline outburst
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has seen his name floating in trade rumors, but he isn’t worried about that.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Wilson said he does not plan on requesting a trade from the Jets.
“I try and control what I can control—go out and run good routes, catch the ball when it’s thrown my way; you know, have a good impact on my teammates, and yeah you know, that’s all I can really control,” Wilson said. “That’s what I’m gonna do; but at the end of the day, I got no clue on stuff like that.” Like I said, it’s just kind of how the industry works when you don’t go out and put a good product out there.”
Garrett Wilson says he would not request a trade away from the Jets https://t.co/Zhh2wTcRXq
— SNY Jets (@snyjets) October 28, 2026
Trade rumors picked up after Wilson was seen throwing a fit on the sideline during the Jets’ 28-25 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Wilson clarified that he wasn’t upset with Geno Smith, but the two were “collaborating,” and they were “disappointed” with the way they had been playing.
The Jets gave Wilson a four-year, $130 million contract extension in 2025, but if he were made available, he would easily be the top WR on the market ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.
Wilson was selected at No. 10 overall in 2022.
NBA rookie pulls off wild feat only Wilt Chamberlain had accomplished
Sacramento Kings rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. has wasted no time attempting shots left and right in his first few games in the NBA.
Acuff has attempted 20 or more shots in each of his first four games, becoming just the second player in NBA history to do that to start his career: The other one is Wilt Chamberlain.
NBA players to start their career with 4 straight games with 20+ field goal attempts 👀 19 — Wilt Chamberlain (1959) 4 — DARIUS ACUFF JR. Game 1: 24 FGA Game 2: 26 FGA Game 3: 23 FGA Game 4: 20 FGA
— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) October 28, 2026
Here are Acuff’s stats through the first four games this season.
- Oct. 21 vs. Clippers: 12 points, 5-of-24 shooting
- Oct. 23 vs. Trail Blazers: 33 points, 10-of-26 shooting
- Oct. 25 vs. Grizzlies: 22 points, 9-of-23 shooting
- Oct. 27 vs. Spurs: 19 points, 8-of-20 shooting
Now, Acuff is nowhere close to breaking Chamberlain’s record, since he did it in 19 straight games in 1959.
Acuff played his only college season at Arkansas, and he was a star for John Calipari’s Razorbacks team. He was selected No. 7 overall by the Kings, although he almost made a bad mistake in his first preseason game.
Still, Acuff isn’t scared to shoot the ball, and he is averaging 21.5 points through four games, although the Kings have yet to win a game so far.
Jim Harbaugh has come to a decision on Mike McDaniel’s play-calling duties
The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-6, but head coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t going to make a change just yet.
Coming out of the bye week, Harbaugh said that offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will continue to call plays, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Harbaugh spoke highly of McDaniel as well while speaking to reporters.
“We’re very confident in Mike and his talent, work ethic, and ability. And continue to be,” Harbaugh said, via Alex Insdorf of The Guilty As Charged podcast.
McDaniel was hired as the OC this offseason in what was expected to be a major boost to the offense led by quarterback Justin Herbert.
Instead, it’s been quite the opposite. The Chargers are dead last in the NFL in points per game (15) and 27th in both yards and passing yards per game.
The Chargers have scored more than 20 points just one time all season long, so it has been a very frustrating start.
Harbaugh insisted earlier in October that McDaniel’s job was “not in jeopardy.” McDaniel said fans wanting him fired is also “pretty standard operating procedure.”
As LA went into the bye week, plenty of questions surfaced regarding whether or not someone else would call plays, or if McDaniel would be fired, but that doesn’t appear to be the case right now.
The Chargers have a brutal stretch with games against the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens coming up.
Michigan has decided on its QB1 despite latest struggles
The Michigan Wolverines are making a change at the quarterback position.
In Week 9 against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Michigan is expected to start freshman Tommy Carr, according to Pete Nakos of On3.
Bryce Underwood, the highly recruited five-star prospect, has thrown for 924 yards with 5 touchdowns and 6 interceptions as Michigan has gotten off to a shaky 4-3 start in his first season with Kyle Whittingham as the head coach.
Underwood was benched during the Week 7 game against Penn State, although Underwood was seen celebrating after Carr scored a touchdown in the Wolverines’ 21-18 win.
Carr then started against the Indiana Hoosiers, but he went 20-of-32 for 167 yards with an interception in the 13-6 overtime loss, leading many to wonder if Underwood would start against Rutgers.
Tommy Carr is the younger brother of Notre Dame Fighting Irish QB CJ Carr, who was on hand to watch the Michigan-Indiana game. He also had a reaction to the final play that gave Indiana the win (video here).
Michigan is trying to stay alive in the Big Ten Conference standings, but they have a 1-3 record and are sitting near the bottom going into this game against Rutgers.
If Carr doesn’t play well this week, Whittingham might have no choice but to give Underwood another shot at the team’s starting QB.
Ernie Johnson makes a stunning announcement about his future
Ernie Johnson has been the host of Inside the NBA for a long time, but it turns out this will be his final season.
On Wednesday, Johnson announced on social media that he is retiring after the 2026-27 NBA season.
“This will be my last season. Totally my decision. It’s just time,” Johnson said. “So why now? I also prided myself on my preparation…I’ve always loved that part of my job. I always vowed that if that ever became a challenge more than a joy, then I’d know it’s time to step away.”
It’s time. 🤟🤟🏾🤟🏻🤟🏽 https://t.co/h1qNwsnkUY
— Ernie Johnson (@TurnerSportsEJ) October 28, 2026
Johnson also spoke about the heart issues he has gone through and how he has continued to “treasure” the time spent with his wife.
Johnson was asked recently about his career, and he said he could “see the finish line.”
Ernie Johnson began hosting Inside the NBA in 1990, and he has become a staple for that show as well as calling March Madness games. The Inside the NBA show moved from TNT to ESPN recently, but Johnson showed nothing but appreciation for the networks keeping him around for such a long time.
This past NCAA Tournament, Johnson took a step back from covering March Madness. Johnson did say he isn’t retiring completely, and he will do projects for TNT and CBS, including March Madness. However, this will be the end of the road for him at Inside the NBA.
Hats off to a legendary run.
Tyrese Haliburton suffers another injury just games into NBA return
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton just can’t catch a break.
After playing just four games following his highly anticipated return, Haliburton has now suffered a hamstring strain that will sideline him for an unknown period of time. ESPN’s Shams Charania later reported that Haliburton will miss around two weeks with the injury.
Haliburton suffered a torn Achilles in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Pacers star missed all of the 2025-26 season, but he played the first four games this season, and he was averaging 21.8 PPG with 9.5 assists.
Haliburton’s return certainly had everybody excited, so this is a crushing blow to the former All-Star and the Pacers as a whole.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said the team will know more this evening, and the plan is for Haliburton to meet with doctors, team executives and a hamstring expert to see the severity of the injury.
Rick Carlise said on @1075thefan that Tyrese Haliburton will meet with a hamstring expert, Pacers docs, and team execs at 4:15. "We’ll hope this hamstring thing is not a big deal or not any kind of a long-term thing. But as I said, we’ll know more about that later this evening."
— Tony East (@TonyREast) October 28, 2026
The Pacers are 2-2, and they face LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers in Indiana on Wednesday night.
Chloe Kim weighs in on boyfriend Myles Garrett’s injury
Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett has played just one game this season after coming over in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett had zero sacks in a forgettable opening game against the San Francisco 49ers, and he then landed on Injured Reserve.
The Rams have been hoping Garrett can return soon, and his girlfriend, Olympic star Chloe Kim, didn’t give much of an update.
“We don’t talk too much about our jobs per se, and our sports,” Kim said. “He is stubborn in the best ways, and no injury is going to hold him back.”
"We don’t talk too much about our jobs per se, and our sports … [Myles Garrett] is stubborn in the best ways, and no injury is going to hold him back." Chloe Kim on when Garrett could return to the field. (via Yahoo Sports Daily) https://t.co/d9aZvO26FS
— Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) October 28, 2026
Kim didn’t give a timeline for when Garrett will return, but she spoke about his toughness and his mindset to be able to recover and get back on the field.
On Monday, Rams coach Sean McVay sure didn’t give much of a hint regarding whether or not the practice window will be open for Garrett.
McVay on whether Rams will open window for Myles Garrett and Terrance Ferguson to return from IR: "I’m not sure yet. Have not decided on those things."
— Gary Klein (@LATimesklein) October 26, 2026
And Kim also isn’t saying much, and she said they don’t talk much about their jobs.
The Rams are 3-4 and have gotten off to a frustrating start after making the NFC title game a year ago, so they sure could use Garrett back on the field.
The Rams face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, followed by the Washington Commanders, and a firm update on Garrett should come in the near future.
Colts WR requests trade after Quenton Nelson, DeForest Buckner moves
The Indianapolis Colts’ fire sale doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
After Indianapolis traded Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner on Tuesday, wide receiver Josh Downs has now requested a trade.
Sources: Colts WR Josh Downs is requesting a trade from Indianapolis. https://t.co/rwGaVGMTFf
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) October 28, 2026
The Colts began by trading eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks. They then traded DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers as he returned to the team that drafted him.
Now, Downs wants out. The Colts selected Downs in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft after he played for the North Carolina Tar Heels in college.
Downs’ best season came in 2024, when he had 72 receptions for 803 yards and 5 touchdowns. This season, he has just 26 catches for 307 yards with zero scores.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz says there is interest in Downs, although it isn’t likely he is moved this week.
#Colts WR Josh Downs has received interest from multiple AFC teams, including the #Steelers, and while a deal is not considered likely this week, the expectation is a trade will eventually happen, per sources. https://t.co/lZ5rH5YyIF
— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) October 28, 2026
Indianapolis is 2-5, and Downs leads the team with 307 yards, but he is looking for another opportunity in a frustrating season for Shane Steichen’s team.
Another name to watch is star running back Jonathan Taylor, although Adam Schefter says he doesn’t see Taylor getting moved ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.
Bill Simmons floats interesting sneaker theory amid rash of NBA injuries
The NBA has already seen a fair share of major injuries this season, and Bill Simmons has a theory for why it might be happening.
Simmons said it might be due to the sneaker technology, and he mentioned low tops and injuries below the knee.
“I do think there’s stuff to look at with the sneakers for some of these other injuries we’re having. And the fact that we’re having all these low-tops and now we’re having all these injuries below the knee,” Simmons said.
Something’s fishy about all of it,” Simmons continued. “It can’t just be the wear and tear in basketball being harder. I wonder if the technology, because guys love the ability to do Eurosteps and do all these other things, I wonder if the technology is actually working against them in some cases.”
It hasn’t even been two weeks of the regular season, and the NBA has seen a ton of major injuries. The Oklahoma City Thunder lost both Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams for an extended period of time. Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards is out for possibly two months due to surgery, and Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard is out for a few weeks due to knee swelling, although Leonard has had an injury history in recent years.
Simmons said he would “love” to read a deep study on it, so it’s nothing more than a thought from the NBA personality.
Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero is also dealing with an ankle issue, so there have been a ton of huge injuries this season already.
Whether or not it’s actually because of the sneakers remains to be seen, but it hasn’t been a promising start to the 2026-27 NBA campaign.
UCLA coach has strong reaction to WNBA’s bizarre Game 6 start time
The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries will play Game 6 of the WNBA Finals on Thursday, with tip-off at 12:30 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena in Georgia.
The game was moved up to the 12:30 start to allow the Dream to host it at State Farm Arena, and the Hawks play that same evening in the same arena. However, the afternoon start time in a potential WNBA Finals closeout game had many scratching their heads at what was a puzzling decision.
UCLA women’s basketball coach Cori Close also shared her thoughts on the league moving the game up to an earlier start.
“I hope that as the incredible work of the WNBA continues to soar, that the ownership groups and the planning in advance will match that soar,” Close said, via Yahoo Sports. “I think it got exposed that it didn’t match this time. Obviously, there wasn’t strategic planning in advance.”
The start times for Games 3 and 4 were already adjusted to a concert and a Hawks game, so this is the third time a Dream home game has been shifted.
One of the other choices was for the game to be held at the Gateway Center, which holds just 3,500 fans, although the league also considered moving the game to Friday and shifting a potential Game 7 to Sunday.
It was also reported on Wednesday that the Dream brought up this issue months ago, but the league didn’t address it at the time.
The Dream said that while it reiterated the issues as the playoffs went on, "our concerns did not receive the attention, nor the urgency they deserved." Sources told @alexaphilippou that the dates for the 2026 playoffs were sent internally to teams on Dec. 4, 2025. https://t.co/JerIMMNVip
— ESPN (@espn) October 28, 2026
Game 6 is on Thursday, and the Valkyries are up 3-2 in the series against the Dream.
NBA team addresses potential Russell Westbrook signing
Are the banged-up Oklahoma City Thunder eyeing a reunion with former NBA Most Valuable Player Russell Westbrook?
Not really, according to Thunder general manager Sam Presti.
“I haven’t thought about anything relative to the roster spot,” Presti told reporters when asked about the potential of his team luring Westbrook to unretire and run it back with Oklahoma City, via the Thunder’s YouTube channel.
“I understand the question, but all I’m really focused on right now is players, giving them the right support, and then helping everybody with our group.”
Westbrook announced his retirement in August, following a one-year stint with the Sacramento Kings.
The 37-year-old Westbrook could have played for at least another season, considering that he was still able to average 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.5 rebounds with the Kings. However, he decided it was time to move on from playing basketball.
The Thunder, particularly their backcourt, are beset by health issues early in the 2026-27 season, with Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace both suffering significant injuries.
Westbrook could theoretically provide depth for the Thunder at the guard spots while offering a feel-good story about a veteran reuniting with the team he used to lead. However, Presti’s response implies that it’s not an option Oklahoma City will be pursuing.

Brian Scalabrine shades Jaylen Brown with a pointed reminder about his past
Former Boston Celtics forward and current team broadcaster Brian Scalabrine seemingly hasn’t moved on from the Jaylen Brown saga.
Scalabrine saw an opportunity to shade Brown while calling Tuesday’s game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston, Mass., adding more fuel to the apparent beef between Brown and Jayson Tatum.
“If I was doing PR work for Jayson Tatum, I would remind everybody who led the league in turnovers last year,” Scalabrine said late in the fourth quarter of the game.
Brian Scalabrine continues to diss Jaylen Brown and pushes the Jayson Tatum agenda "If I was doing PR work for Jayson Tatum, I would remind everybody who led the league in turnovers last year" https://t.co/Jk34ZWGngZ
— Ahmed/The Ears/IG: BigBizTheGod 🇸🇴 (@big_business_) October 28, 2026
Scalabrine, who won an NBA title with the Celtics in 2008, clearly did his research on Brown before taking a shot at the Philadelphia 76ers star.
Indeed, Brown led the NBA in turnovers during the 2025-26 season with 259, four more than Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers, who ranked second on the list.
The “PR work” mention may also refer to Brown’s earlier comment that Tatum has a “hell of a PR team,” after Tatum downplayed the animosity between him and his former teammate.
It’s hard to say how long this drama between Tatum and Brown will last, but it also makes the first meeting between the Celtics and the 76ers on Nov. 10 even more interesting.
Justin Tucker finds a new landing spot in the AFC
Veteran NFL kicker Justin Tucker is headed to the AFC West.
According to Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs are signing Tucker to their practice squad on Wednesday.
Tucker, a seven-time Pro Bowler, last played in the NFL in the 2024 season with the Baltimore Ravens, the only team he’s ever played for in his pro career.
The Ravens parted ways with Tucker in May 2025 amid accusations of sexual misconduct by multiple women who worked at spas and wellness centers in Baltimore. In June of that year, the NFL handed Tucker a 10-week suspension after an investigation found he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.
Tucker became eligible to return on Nov. 11, but he hasn’t played a game since. He tried out with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts, but both teams ultimately did not sign him.
The Chiefs still have Harrison Butker, but he hasn’t been playing at an exceptional level, having missed five of his 16 attempts so far in the 2026 season. Kansas City’s move on Tucker also comes on the heels of Butker missing a pair of field-goal attempts in the team’s Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
The 36-year-old Tucker is a seven-time Pro Bowl kicker and a Super Bowl champion, having won the title with the Ravens during his rookie season in 2012.
Fans flame Pat Murphy for his decision in Game 4 loss to the Rays
The Milwaukee Brewers wouldn’t have gotten this far if manager Pat Murphy hadn’t pressed the right buttons throughout the 2026 MLB postseason.
However, many fans felt he made the wrong call in Game 4 of the 2026 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday by opting not to use ace Jacob Misiorowski in the 12th inning.
The Brewers could smell the World Series title after rookie Cooper Pratt hit a solo home run in the top of the 12th frame to give Milwaukee the 3-2 lead in the potential series clincher at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
But the Rays’ offense unleashed on Milwaukee in the bottom of the 12th, as another rookie, pitcher Shane Drohan gave up four hits in a row before Rays pinch-hitter Ben Williamson delivered the game-winning RBI single to hand the home team the 4-3 victory.
Fans then took to social media to criticize Murphy for not going all in by sending the hard-throwing Misiorowski to the mound rather than opting for someone like Drohan.
Pat Murphy gave us his best MLF impression tonight, Miz better have it tomorrow
— TJR (@travis_r22) October 28, 2026
no clue how Misiorowski wasn’t brought into finish, managed like a team with a 3-0 lead, Pat Murphy woulda never let that happened vs the dodgers
— WOLFE (@wolfe6131) October 28, 2026
Putting in Misiorowski would’ve been the right time when you’re up 1 and a win away from your first championship, wtf was Pat Murphy thinking?
— David⁶𓅓 (@HoodiDrizzy) October 28, 2026
There’s literally no Game 5 if he sends in Misiorowski. Pat Murphy is arguably the best manager in baseball but this is an all time bad decision.
— Joe Najarian (@JoeNajarian) October 28, 2026
I’m sorry. I’m not Pat Murphy but why would you not go to the Miz there? it’s the World Series you have three outs to be apart of history and you trot out Shane Drohan?
— Redmond "Leakey" Melcher (@RichardBreath67) October 28, 2026
Murphy had his reasons for not giving the ball to Misiorowski.
According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Murphy said Misiorowski wasn’t an option even in such a close game, primarily because he did not want to wear out the two-time All-Star hurler with the Brewers leading the series 3-0. Misiorowski would have also pitched in Game 4 on just three days of rest, as he started in Milwaukee’s 3-2 win in the series opener.
Those looking for Misiorowski in action will get their wish Wednesday, as the 24-year-old right-hander will toe the rubber in Game 5 of the Fall Classic.
Joe Schoen drops telling update on Jaxson Dart’s potential to return
The New York Giants are navigating the rest of the 2026 NFL season without quarterback Jaxson Dart, but he remains optimistic about potentially playing again before the current campaign ends.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen addressed the media on Tuesday and provided an update on Dart, saying that the former Ole Miss star signal-caller is still targeting a return in the playoffs, should the Giants get there.
“He’s not weight-bearing yet. So he’s on his crutches. But he’s staying as positive as he can. He’s around, which I think is good, you know, mentally being around the guys, being around football still,” Schoen said, via the Dan Salomone of the Giants’ official site.
“And, you know, he still thinks if we make the playoffs that he’s going to be able to come back.”
Schoen also highlighted Dart’s determination to play despite having just suffered a knee injury in the Giants’ 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.
“So, you know, that’s just his mindset. That’s just his mindset. I mean, he got hurt in the Rams game. He’s in the locker room trying to do pass sets, dying to go back in the game. So, you know, he’s one of those guys you appreciate his toughness and grit,” Schoen added.
For now, the Giants will continue rolling with JJ McCarthy under center.
Should New York stay the course, the Giants could secure a playoff berth, as they currently lead the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record.
Rays win World Series Game 4 on a cinematic 12th-inning walk-off
The Tampa Bay Rays still have life.
Tampa Bay won Game 4 of the World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion. They needed 12 innings to earn a come-from-behind 4-3 victory in front of their home crowd at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. and trim Milwaukee’s advantage in the series to 3-1.
After the game went into extras tied 2-2, the Brewers got what they thought was a World Series-winning home run in the top of the 12th by rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt. But the Rays managed to pull a rabbit of their hat in the bottom of the frame.
Tampa Bay star Junior Caminero led off the bottom of the 12th reaching on an error from Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz. Liam Hicks and Jonny DeLuca then followed with consecutive singles to tie the game at 3-3.
With still nobody out, Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson initially tried to bunt the winning run over into scoring position. But after failing to make contact before picking up two strikes, Simpson swung the bat instead and got a base hit himself.
That then set the table for Tampa Bay teammate Ben Williamson to win the game. Williamson managed to beat a five-man Milwaukee infield by chopping a base hit the other way off Brewers pitcher Shane Drohan to earn the walk-off victory.
BEN WILLIAMSON WALK-OFF RAYS SURVIVE! https://t.co/bjHolx3L4m
— MLB (@MLB) October 28, 2026
The Rays did get a little bit of help from the umpires earlier on in the game. But they still earned every bit of that victory with a gutsy and cinematic comeback performance against the Brewers in Game 4. Now Tampa Bay will try to extend their season once again in front of their home crowd during Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday.
Notable update surfaces on Shedeur Sanders before trade deadline
Shedeur Sanders is stuck as an understudy in Cleveland … and it looks like it will be staying that way.
The Cleveland Browns have no plans to move their second-year quarterback Sanders ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported this week. Cabot further reveals that the Browns also do not plan to trade fellow QB Dillon Gabriel and will not be shopping either player, barring an offer that they cannot refuse.
Sanders, 24, was Cleveland’s fifth-round pick in 2025 (No. 144 overall). He started seven games as a rookie for the Browns last season, going 3-4 and throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
But this season, Sanders (who was actually named a 2025 Pro Bowler as a replacement) has been stuck behind Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. The 31-year-old Watson has been surprisingly stellar for Cleveland in 2026, going 5-2 as the starter with 1,482 passing yards and seven touchdowns to three interceptions (plus another 215 yards and a touchdown on the ground).
Gabriel was notably just activated off injured reserve earlier this week. That means the Browns now have four QBs on their active roster (along with rookie Taylen Green), and it appears that will remain the case indefinitely.
The former Colorado star Sanders had been mentioned earlier this season as a potential option for teams such as the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles who are down their starting QBs for the rest of the year. But Cleveland will instead likely hold onto Sanders through the trade deadline, possibly for a multitude of reasons.
Rays benefit from a missed call on the basepaths in World Series Game 4
The Tampa Bay Rays got a Hamburger Helper during Tuesday’s game.
Tampa Bay hosted the Milwaukee Brewers for Game 4 of the 2026 World Series on Tuesday. During the fourth inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Rays had a runner on second with one out as outfielder Jonny DeLuca batted.
DeLuca hit a dribbler to Brewers third baseman David Hamilton, who fielded the ball and tried to tag out lead runner Junior Caminero, who ducked out of the way. Hamilton then fired a desperation throw to first to try to get DeLuca, but it sailed wide of the bag, allowing Caminero to score.
But the footage showed that Caminero appeared to be clearly out of the basepaths as he avoided the tag and even had a foot or two on the infield grass. With the (no) call non-reviewable by rule however, Caminero was able to score the second run of the game for Tampa Bay thanks to the umpiring miss.
Rays took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th when replay review showed that David Hamilton couldn’t get the tag on Junior Caminero. Out of the baseline is not a challengeable play https://t.co/5WchsRJ4LV
— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) October 28, 2026
Screenshots circulated on social media showing just how far out of the basepaths Caminero seemed to be (relative to the three feet of leeway that he was allowed to have by rule there).
Runners get 3 feet out of their established base path on a tag play. Here’s where Caminero was when Hamilton established the tag attempt and where he ended up. You be the ump. https://t.co/7hw6OVhwLp
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) October 28, 2026
The Brewers did quickly manage to tie the game in the next inning when (poetically) Hamilton hit a solo home run to make the score 2-2. But this was far from the first time in this year’s World Series that Caminero was involved in some drama on the basepaths.
