Amir Khan thinks he may be fighting Floyd Mayweather next

Amir Khan has been duped into thinking that he was in line to fight Floyd Mayweather many times in the past before having the football pulled out from right in front of him, but this time he really thinks it will happen.

The British-born fighter, who defeated Chris Algieri two weeks ago, says a fight with Mayweather could be finalized in the next two weeks.

“I don’t think I have ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment,” Khan said via The Guardian. “The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks.”

There has also been talk about Khan facing Kell Brook, but Brook also wants a shot at Mayweather.

“He’s got no right to fight Mayweather – if anyone is going to get the Mayweather fight it should be me,” says Brook. “I’m world champion and unbeaten. He [Khan] should fight me because every single fight fan in Britain wants to see the fight. I’m giving him the opportunity to challenge for my world title.”

Indeed both men are correct. The LA Times’ Lance Pugmire says both are in contention for a September fight with Mayweather and that the announcement could be made within two weeks.

If Khan does get the fight, he would be a lucky guy because that means Mayweather would forgive him for saying he was full of s—.
