The look an Andre Ward’s face said it all when it came to the controversial decision he was awarded in his fight with Sergey Kovalev on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena on Las Vegas.
At first it was announced that all three judges had scored the fight 114-113, making the outcome a unanimous decision. At that point, HBO cameras showed Ward looking discouraged, apparently resigned to his fate of losing the fight. But as soon as Michael Buffer said “new,” Ward realized he had won and had the look of shock of a person who unexpectedly hit a jackpot on a slot machine:

Andre Ward being shocked that he won the fight tells you all you need to know, and that is that the close decision should have gone to Kovalev. At least both fighters say they are open to a rematch.
