Ryan Garcia has shared his first message since losing to Rolly Romero on Friday night.

Garcia lost to Romero in their fight at Times Square in New York, N.Y., to fall to 24-2 (1). The loss gave Romero the WBA welterweight title.

This was Garcia’s first fight in over a year and first since his April 2024 win over Devin Haney was overturned due to a failed drug test. Garcia looked sluggish in the fight and did not throw many punches. The 26-year-old maintained a positive attitude on social media despite his loss.

“First want to Thank God for everything in every situation, I couldn’t do it tonight, I’m devastated and really sad that I fought the way I did. I just didn’t have it tonight felt off I fought a lot to get here, as you know what I went thru (sic) last year was something a lot of people don’t come back from So (sic) I can see a victory for me in that Congratulations to Rollies, Hell of a dude and great hearted person wish you nothing but the best. I love you all and thank you for everything,” Garcia wrote in a post on X afterwards.

Garcia did have some complaints after the fight. He said that fighting in Times Square felt like a sparring match rather than a true fight.

“It just didn’t feel authentic to me,” Garcia said.

Romero won the fight via unanimous decision. He knocked Garcia down in the second in the match.
