George Russell on Sunday secured the pole position and cruised to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, taking advantage of a course where overtaking opponents is difficult.

The victory marked Russell’s fifth Formula One win and second of the season. It was his first ever win at the Singapore Grand Prix, which took him back to 2018. Seven years ago, he watched Lewis Hamilton win the race.

Back in 2018 I was here with Mercedes watching Lewis take an insane pole and win. 7 years later, it’s a special moment for me to win here in Singapore and to celebrate the moment with my team 🙌 pic.twitter.com/ctYT7063JN

Russell saw Hamilton take a cool photo after the win and decided to recreate it.

Finishing behind Russell was Max Verstappen in second and Lando Norris in third. Norris overtook both Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri on the opening lap.

Behind Norris was Piastri, who finished fourth. As a result, McLaren was able to secure the 2025 constructor’s championship — its first consecutive title since 1988.

Despite securing the constructor’s championship, this is the third consecutive week where other teams have finished ahead of McLaren. Since McLaren does not have any more upgrades plans for the season, other teams have seemed to closed the gap.

Piastri still leads Norris by 22 points, with Verstappen trailing 41 points behind Norris. With six races remaining, Verstappen will still be mathematically in contention as long as he continues to finish ahead of both McLaren drivers.
