Coastal Carolina coach ejected from CWS final for weak reason

Kevin Schnall getting ejected

Coastal Carolina manager Kevin Schnall was ejected from an elimination game in the College World Series in the first inning on Sunday for a weak reason.

Schnall was ejected along with first base coach Matt Schilling during the first inning of action in Sunday’s College World Series Game 2 between LSU and Coastal Carolina at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Ne. Schnall was unhappy with the strike zone early, and could be seen holding up three fingers toward home plate umpire Angel Campos. Schnall appeared to be telling Campos “you missed three pitches.”

That was enough for Campos to toss Schnall after just ten pitches in the bottom of the first. A lengthy argument ensured in which another umpire actually lost his footing and tumbled to the ground.

Coastal Carolina must win Sunday to force a decisive Game 3. Even if they do win, Schnall will not be able to coach in the final game of the series, as continuing an argument after ejection results in an automatic two-game suspension at the college level.

Campos, a former MLB umpire, was strongly criticized on social media for the quick hook. Many felt that in a game of such importance, Schnall should have been granted more leeway, especially so early in the contest.

Schnall has shown himself to have a very fiery personality, so it is no shock he was going to stick up for his team. He probably did not anticipate getting tossed that quickly, either.
