Coastal Carolina needed a win on Sunday to avoid elimination in the 2025 College World Series, and their head coach did not make it through much of the game before being ejected.
Kevin Schnall, who is in his first season as the head coach at Costal Carolina, was ejected during the bottom of the first inning of his team’s game against LSU at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. Coastal Carolina had just had a runner steal second with two outs in the inning when Schnall received a warning for arguing balls and strikes.
After being spoken to by home plate umpire Angel Campos, Schnall came out of the dugout and appeared to tell the ump that he had already “missed three pitches.” Schnall was then ejected.
Coastal Carolina first base coach Matt Schilling came over to join the argument and was also thrown out of the game. You can see the video here.
Most people were in disbelief that Campos ejected Schnall and Schilling given the circumstances.
There are very few combinations of words in the English language that warrant ejecting a coach from an elimination game in the Men's College World Series finals. And yet Coastal Carolina's Kevin Schnall — and first-base coach Matt Schilling — just got run in the first inning.

Kevin Schnall walks slightly out of his dugout and yells…

“You missed 3 pitches.”
The home plate umpire then quickly ejects Schnall…
In the 1st inning…
Of a national championship game…
Utterly ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/YUiiGFYr6R
Oh my goodness, Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall has been ejected in the 1st inning against LSU

“You missed 3 pitches, you missed 3 pitches”
Then an umpire loses his balance.
This is ridiculous and absolutely absurd pic.twitter.com/uBrv3uc5T3
The NCAA’s got a real problem.

Ejecting Kevin Schnall & the first base coach from the game in the bottom of the 1st and then the umpire flops over.
Really???
The Kevin Schnall ejection is not a good look for the sport. Toss a head coach in the first inning of an elimination game in the championship series without a warning? Bold move. Absolutely insane.

Kevin Schnall should have refused to leave. That was the most pathetic power trip I’ve ever witnessed by an umpire crew

After losing to LSU 1-0 on Saturday, Coastal Carolina needed a win on Sunday to keep their season alive. While rules prohibit coaches from arguing balls and strikes, almost everyone agreed that Campos should have shown more restraint because of what was at stake.
