6-foot-10 power forward Harry Giles is out for the year after tearing his right ACL in his team’s season opener on Wednesday.
Giles, the No. 1 ranked high school recruit of the 2016 class, suffered the injury in the opening minutes of the game, his debut for famed Oak Hill Academy.
The diagnosis was confirmed as a “partially torn” ACL by Giles’ father to ESPN on Thursday.

Giles, 17, has yet to announce his college decision, but has narrowed down his list to a Final Four: Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, and Wake Forest.
The North Carolina native is a long, versatile athlete that plays above the rim while possessing a refined post game as well as an ability to go off the dribble. Combine that with natural shot-blocking instincts and range out to the three-point line, and it’s clear that Giles has probably the highest ceiling of any high school player in the nation.
However, this is the second major knee injury that Giles has already suffered at such a young age. He tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee back in 2013, per Jeff Goodman of ESPN.
The good news is that this latest injury does not appear to be quite as bad as his first tear, and hopefully the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft is back in action soon.
