Report: Ryan Odom will not be next Virginia Tech coach
What sounded like a done deal earlier Saturday will not be happening at all for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
According to Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, UMBC coach Ryan Odom spoke to Virginia Tech about their coaching opening, but will not be taking the job after all.
Gene Wang of the Washington Post, who reported earlier Saturday that Odom would be introduced by the end of the day, confirmed the news, nothing that something must have happened to make things fall apart in the late stages.
What my #Hokies sources confirmed as well. Deal must have unraveled in late stages. https://t.co/zqOW1FOoOR

The Times-Dispatch report also notes that Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, who was also believed to be a candidate, withdrew his name from consideration earlier Saturday.
At this point, it’s not clear at all which direction Virginia Tech will go in replacing Buzz Williams, who has departed for Texas A&M. It appears that their efforts so far have come to nothing.
