Alabama has lowest ranking ever in College Football Playoff
Alabama lost to Auburn 48-45 in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, which was a tough loss in terms of the rivalry, but it also had further embarrassing implications for the Crimson Tide.
When the new College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday, the Tide was ranked No. 12, which was by far their lowest ranking of the CFP era.
According to Mike Rodak, Alabama’s previous lowest ever ranking was No. 6 in the inaugural rankings in October 2014.
This is by far Alabama’s lowest CFP ranking ever. Their previous low was No. 6 in the inaugural rankings Oct. 28, 2014. https://t.co/CbWbWm2YGA

Bama is 10-2 and has two conference losses (they also fell to LSU). Their only win against a ranked opponent came at Texas A&M earlier in the season. They have had a soft schedule and lost to their difficult opponents. Still, Bama barely lost to Auburn, on the road, and it was by a 3-point margin, with Auburn gifted a field goal before halftime. The committee likely felt they couldn’t rank Alabama ahead of Auburn after the Tigers just won head-to-head, but I would still have the Tide ranked ahead of many of the other two-loss teams, like Penn State and probably Florida.
You know a No. 12 CFP ranking is just going to drive Nick Saban to never let this happen again.
