Arkansas paid $3 million to lose to Western Kentucky and San Jose State
Arkansas’ time under Chad Morris has been pretty disastrous and can be summed up with one truly embarrassing stat.
On Saturday, the Hogs were blown out at home to Western Kentucky 45-19. It wasn’t just a loss; it was a beatdown.
Arkansas trailed 35-7 at halftime and was widely mocked. They were down by as much as 38-7 in the third quarter.
Adding further insult to the embarrassing loss is how much money Arkansas paid Western Kentucky to come serve them a huge helping of “L.” Big schools like Arkansas often pay smaller schools from non-power 5 conferences money to entice them to play a tough road game. So Arkansas paid Western Kentucky $1.5 million for the visit. Arkansas also paid San Jose State $1.5 million earlier this season and lost, meaning they paid $3 million total this season to lose home games to those schools. That’s brutal.
Arkansas does have two wins this year — against Portland State and Colorado State. They were 2-10 under Chad Morris last year and are 2-8 under him this year. They’ve gone 0-14 in SEC play under Morris.
Morris’ start has been pretty awful, however, it’s important to keep in mind that he is a big-time recruiter and was also completely remaking the team from Bret Bielema, who was a run-first coach rather than a passing offense guy like Morris. A rebuild in the extremely tough SEC West will take time.
