De’Andre Johnson punch video shows woman swung, he retaliated
Florida State quarterback De’Andre Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery last week after he punched a woman in the face at a bar. On Monday, the Florida State Attorney’s Office released a video of the incident.
The video, which was published by The Tallahassee Democrat, shows Johnson and the woman begin arguing while waiting for a drink at about the 1:53 mark. The woman raised her right fist at Johnson, who then grabbed her arm. The woman then swung at Johnson with her left hand and appeared to graze his face. He retaliated by punching her square in the face with his right hand.
While it’s tough to tell who the aggressor was in the argument, it’s clear that Johnson could have just walked away from the confrontation. State Attorney Willie Meggs charged the 19-year-old with misdemeanor battery after viewing the security footage. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher suspended Johnson indefinitely on June 25.
Florida State will also likely investigate whether Johnson was drinking at the bar, as he is underage. It would not be a shock to see him kicked off the team now that the footage has been released.
