Derrick Henry breaks Herschel Walker’s SEC single-season rushing record
Herschel Walker has long been known as one of the greatest players in college football. On Saturday, Alabama’s Derrick Henry broke one of his more well-known records.
Henry came into the SEC Championship Game against Florida needing 94 yards to tie Walker’s SEC single-season rushing record of 1,891 yards, set in 1981. The Crimson Tide junior finished the game with 189 yards on a whopping 44 carries to give him 1,986 yards for the season. Henry also scored his 23 rushing touchdown of the season during the second quarter, giving him a share of the SEC single-season rushing touchdown record with Tim Tebow and Tre Mason. The score also gave Henry a touchdown in 18 consecutive games.
Heading into the weekend, Derrick Henry was the favorite of many to take home this year’s Heisman Trophy and certainly did nothing to change that opinion on Saturday.
