Georgia WR arrested for reckless driving
A Georgia football player was arrested over the weekend on charges related to reckless driving.
Sacovie White, a freshman who is entering his first season at Georgia, was arrested early Saturday morning after being stopped by Athens-Clarke County Police. Officers pulled White over after White was observed driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
Clarke County Jail records show that White was booked at 3:04 a.m. on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and “one way roadway.” He was released one hour later on bonds totaling $26, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.
Steve Gates, who coached White at Cass High School in Cartersville, Ga., told the Athens Banner-Herald that he is glad White was not drinking.
“He made a mistake by turning down a one way road. What I’m proud of is that there was no drinking of speeding involved that I would have been disappointed in obviously,” Gates said. “But a traffic violation that occurs on the regular, bet he won’t go down that road again.”
White, a 3-star recruit, enrolled early at Georgia and has had a solid spring. He caught a 26-yard touchdown in Georgia’s spring game last month.
White is the second Georgia player to be arrested in the last two months.
